Ward Challenge for 2011

Bishop Deet and his Counselors, Brother Anderton and Brother Francisco, have again asked that we study the Book of Mormon for ten minutes each day in 2011. We are promised that as we do this, our lives will be blessed, our minds will be opened, and we will bless the lives of our children, and others around us.

Young Women in Excellence

YOU MUST HAVE BEEN A BEAUTIFUL BABY

This was the theme for the Young Women in Excellence this year.  All the girls picked one of the Young Women Values, did a project for that value and then displayed their project on a table and told everyone what they did to accomplish that goal.  All the girls did an excellent job on their projects.  They also brought a baby picture to put on their table.  It was really fun to see them all as babies.  And yes they all were Beautiful Babies and are growing up to be Beautiful Young Women.  It is so fun to watch them all learn and grow in their talents and in the gospel.  Thank you to all the Young Women leaders and for all that they do help the girls grow.  Here are some pictures of the girls projects.

Captain Crunch French Toast

This recipe came from the TV show"Diners, Drive-ins and Dives".  By the way, there is nothing low calorie about this, so if you are dieting, run away now!  But I thought that this might be fun to have on Christmas morning.  ENJOY!

7 eggs
4 oz. heavy cream
1/4 c. sugar
1 Tbsp. vanilla
cinnamon to taste
1 box Captain Crunch Cereal
1 loaf Texas Toast bread
1 stick melted butter
fresh assorted berries
In a bowl put in first 5 ingredients. Using a wire whisk, mix together. In a separate bowl. Put half of the box of cereal. Crush cereal leaving some of it whole. Coat griddle with butter using a basting brush. Dip one slice of bread, at a time into batter and then into the bowl of cereal. Make sure that it is well coated with the cereal. Place onto hot griddle and cook until golden brown on both sides.
Top french toast with homemade whipped cream, fresh berries, and additional captain crunch cereal.
To make whipped cream, place 8 oz. of cream in a bowl along with 3/4 c. sugar. Beat on high until it stiffens. You can add more or less sugar depending on your taste.

The Best, Fattest, Softest Sugar Cookies EVER!

OK, I am going to share with you my favorite sugar cookie recipe just in time for Christmas.  These are the best cookies ever!  Put on some Christmas music and have a family night of making them and decorate them for Christmas.  Give them to friends and neighbors and enjoy some for your self too.  YUM YUM

1 cup butter (soften)
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 cup sour cream
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. baking soda
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
4 1/2 cups flour

Cream butter and sugar together.  Add eggs.  Add in the sour cream and vanilla, mix well.  Add in the dry ingredients.  Mix well.  You want the dough to be slightly sticky.  Chill dough in the fridge for 15 to 20 mins.  Heat oven to 350.  Roll out to about 1/2 in. thick.  Cut cookies out and place on a non-greased cookie sheet.  Bake for 12- 15 mins or until lightly browned.

Christmas Salad

This is a really easy and delicious salad to do.  It is perfect for Christmas time with the colors of green and red.  Kids love it because of the apples and craisins.  ENJOY!

2 salad bags baby spinach
2 large apples sliced and diced
1 cup Craisins
1 cup sliced roasted almonds (unsalted)
Poppy Seed Dressing (Can use Marie's) or you can make the dressing

You can also add sliced strawberries which are very good too.

Poppy Seed Dressing
1/3 cup white sugar
1/2 cup white vinegar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground dry mustard
1 teaspoon grated onion
1 cup vegetable oil
1 tablespoon poppy seeds
In a blender or food processor, combine sugar, vinegar, salt, mustard and onion and process for 20 seconds. With blender or food processor on high, gradually add oil in a slow, steady stream. Stir in poppy seeds.

Add all ingredients and toss.
